Well Teddy returned this a.m. Yesterday I had locked the larger trap in the open position and lined the bottom of it with straw. I also spread some straw around "his" area hoping he would not notice. I placed his food about 6-8 inches inside the trap this morning. I was anxious to see his reaction to the placement and the straw.
The straw didn't seem to bother him as it even appeared to me from a distance that he did enter the trap a bit. (It's is difficult to really see clearly at that distance but it looked like his "flash" entered a short way.) I was anxious to visit "his" site later in the morning to see where his plate might have ended up. While he did pull one plate out, the other plate (cover) was still in the trap so he almost had to enter to flip the lid off his food plate and drag it out. I'll take it as a good sign, even if I am kidding myself. I'm just going to allow myself to believe he entered the trap. I'm sticking to it and please don't try to convince me otherwise (I couldn't take it)
I wonder where he goes all day and night. A while back I had seen him lounging a few hundred feet from his feeding station, but that was many weeks ago. He doesn't seem to linger after eating. It almost makes me wonder if he has other "stops" to make. I can't imagine where he hides, sleeps, or what he does during a day. The only thing I DO KNOW is that he probably spends a lot of time running from other creatures, noises, and perhaps humans. His fear level and startle responses are extremely elevated, which why it is so important for people not to speak to him or chase him. We must get the word out!
I'm still trying to locate contact numbers of those who may be feeding him once in a while.
So tomorrow...I will place his food inside the trap a little more. Day by day...inch by inch...and then I will set it once again.
I'll keep you posted, and as always please pray for his safety and his rescue.
