I was really under the weather yesterday so my monitoring was a bit slack. It was a very rainy day, but that didn't stop Teddy from hanging around (which is a good thing). Seems he's getting a little braver as this picture shows him lying behind the mulch pile, actually in the open back yard. It was pouring at the time too, but he just laid there (naturally making me feel more guilty as I know how hungry he is). When I went up late afternoon to clear the trap, I came upon him actually lying in front of the trap, tugging at my heart strings even more. I froze momentarily and he looked at me. I quickly opened the can of Vienna sausages that I had in my possession to hopefully offer him a treat. I stood with my hand outstretched with the smelly sausage, avoiding his eye contact, hoping he would come closer, but...he didn't... he moved from his position. He didn't run, but went further up on the hill and just watched me. I cleaned up the trap, locked it in the open position, and dropped a few tidbits for him. I also left a little food for him midway in the trap (I'm a little concerned about all this time with absolutely no food). Then since I could see him watching me I decided to move away from the area and sit on the edge of our garden with a sausage in hand. If I could only get him to see that I am tossing him actual food, I think we'd be making a step in the right direction. So I sat and waited, and then he came around the corner of the stone wall and grabbed two morsels I had left there. He looked right at me and when I went to gently, with as little motion as possible, toss a piece of sausage, he WALKED away. I sat for a little while longer , but due to not feeling well, gave up. He did return and clean up what was left, AND tripped the trap again. Could this guy be so smart as to know when the trap is locked in the open position? If so, imagine!
Please keep your positive thoughts and prayers focused on our Teddy, for his safety and rescue. Thank you!
